Corsa Gearbox Problem....?

Hi, I drive a corsa 2003 model, My car went into the workshop two days ago, to be serviced, yesterday I got it back only to notice alot of red oil leaking out the bottom of the gearbox. Sent it back to the workshop, the mechanic says the side shaft has a leak..?? what does that mean? and is it a huge problem? Can it be fixed in a day?

Sounds like the seal that the half shaft(axle) goes through on the trany side,and yes it needs to be fixed,and yes it can be done in less than a day,more like3 to 5 hours,not sure what the book calls for
