Here is mine: 1988 Olds 98. Began running rough, changed ox sensor, changed mass flow sensor, finally took it to a GM dealer. Mr. Goodwrench, laughed walked to the rear door cigarette lighter and pulled out a penny my 3 year old son had drop into the empty lighter slot. Car ran great after that. Truth is better than fiction.
When Yours Truly was young and inexperienced, my 1967 Ford Mustang straight 6 200cc (I Know, I know, I said i was young), suddenly would not shift out of 1st gear.
In a near panic as to the cost involved (..young), I took it to my local AAMCO shop, winding out the engine all the way.
With a pale face, and gulping hard, I asked the Tech on duty just what could be the problem. He looked under the hood..........
And reconnected the vacuum advance line that had come loose from the Carbuerettor.
"That'll be 200 Dollars" , said he, with a laugh
I still use that line whenever I can solve a customer's problem with an easy, no charge fix
