car transmission leak repairs
What are my options after buying used car 30 days, the car has a lot problems w/ with$5K of repairs needed?
Can I return the car or do I have to fix it. I did check for history everything came up clean, had mechanic check it and engine is after market, transmission is leaking oil, if not fix will need to replace.
please help
First off it depends on who you bought it from. If you bought it from a private party you probably are out of luck. If you bought it from a dealer you need to check your paperwork. All dealers are required to post a Federal buyers guide in the window of the cars that they are offering for sale. If he left it in the car you probably took it out and threw it away when you got home. That is a 1 page form that explains what type of warranty you are getting with the car. If the box is checked that says No warranty - car sold As Is, then you were warned that there was no warranty. Next check your purchase order and see if is has "As is" in big letters at the top of the form. You agreed by signing this form that there was no warranty.
Keeping that in mind I can tell you that the courts are very sympathetic with used car buyers. If you can some how convince a judge that the problems were with the car when you bought it you might get something. However the dealer can not predict what problems may occur in the future so if the problems occurred after the sale they are your responsibility.
