Why my car will not shift?

I have a '92 Ford Tempo, and one night driving home, I parked the car, came back, started it, put it into drive.... and will go up to 40KMs/hr on 3k RPM will not shift, nor go faster(unless i rev the car) well, since then the car its sitting in my garage, im going to change the transmission oil, any ideas? ive read about sensors, but ive never worked on auto trans. some help please

Here is my response to the same question posted last week for the same concern, same trans.
There are a number of possibilities with this ATX 3spd. One, check that the TV cable is attached to the trans and throttle body and it moves freely (easiest). Two, the 1-2 shift and TV modulator valve is sticking. Three, the intermediate clutch or shaft splines are damaged. Four, the governor drive and driven gears are worn. The last one is most likely. Ford had a TSB and a Program on it years ago, both now expired. The last three would be relatively expensive repairs. Trans has no electronic controls.
