auto transmission manual shift
Poll: How does a car with "auto shift" work?
I know how to drive manual transmission and an automatic, but I don't get the concept of auto shift.
Technically, it is possible to reprogram the TCM through the diagnostic connector on the car.
However...you'll have to figure out (1) the program you want to put in the TCM, (2) the program to program the TCM, and (3) the interface to the connector (I'm not sure if any of the VAG-COM connectors will work).
From what I've been told, VW doesn't just let every shop have access to the means to reprogram the TCM. There are a limited number of people with the proper program/equipment to do it and they travel to the dealerships on an "as needed" basis. This was needed about a year ago when some gassers got equipped with improperly programmed TCMs.
I have seen one chart listing the pin configurations to a TCM. It indicated which connections are the inputs to the TCM for "up", "down" and "manual shift mode". I haven't tried to verify if it would apply to the TCM in our cars. I doubt that the 01M's TCM is programmed to recognize those inputs anyways (like the difficulties encountered with Mark 60 brakes, ASR, and our ECMs).
