dodge auto transmission problems
1997 dodge neon manual transmission leak?
I bought my son a a dodge neon (used)1997 sport 2.0L (dohc)... and i noticed a transmission leak. Problem is its a 5 speed, and i was told you can buy stop leak for auto transmissions, but this is a manual trans. Im trying2find the easy way out here until he graduates, maybe i can trade it in so im wondering do they make a manual transmission stop leak product?... and... if gear oil different from manual transmission fluid or its the same? I bought it for just local travel, and i need2know something that i can basically fix to last for awhile without having2tear down the transmission to replace seals and gaskets. Need2do something quick cause its a mess under the carport...I'm sure someone else here has this problem but all answers will be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance!
gear oil = manual transmission fluid. BUT, check the owner's manual, some run ATF.
Are you sure it is the trans leaking & not something like a valve cover leaking onto the trans?
If it is the trans, is it at the 1/2-shaft input? If so I believe those replace from the outside.
Are the drain & fill plugs tight?
Breather [small on top] on & open?
I've never heard of MT sealant, but I've seen a little brake fluid put into a PS system to make the seals swell, didn't like the idea though.
